Standard 7C

Picture
At beginning of each school year, I present a lesson laying the foundation for basic research on how to distinguish between reliable and unreliable sources. For the middle school level, the lesson teaches a new skill; for the upper school level, this is used as a review lesson as these students have already taken the prerequisite course work. With the upper school, more time is spent on reviewing plagiarism and how to properly cite sources used when completing research for writing papers.  The objectives for the lesson remain the same regardless of grade level being taught. I also have created a mini lesson on how to use social media when completing a research project. The social media platform must be a verified source and students will explore the difference between verified and unverified.

Lesson Objective - SWBAT
- Determine the characteristics of reliable sources and unreliable sources
- Explain why and how a source is reliable or unreliable.

Key Terms
- Reliable
- Unreliable
- Verified Source
- Research

Below are Examples of Social Media such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram and how that can used properly as sources and what to look for when using Social Media.
