Standard 2A

Picture
I decided to get my Masters in Instructional Technology since the technology department was not staffed by a dedicated professional. Last year I was offered the position of technology director which allowed me to better educate and run workshops to support the staff. I have been able to incorporate what I have learned these past two years and implement this knowledge to benefit my school. Coursework from LLT 535 K-12 Distance Learning was especially helpful. One of the requirements for the course was to create a virtual course and I chose to develop this class using one of my current classes, Government & Civics. Along with developing a virtual class, I was also able to build the course more closely to follow PA State Standards.

Below is an example of my course overview and outline for the course.

Government & Civics
Textbook: Government & Civics Principles in Practice

  • Course Overview:
Students will study the purposes, principles, and practices of American government as established by the Constitution. Students are expected to understand their rights and responsibilities as citizens and how to exercise these rights and responsibilities in local, state, and national government. The reading of primary source documents is a key feature of United States Government and Civics standards.

  • Rationale:
This course is a required social studies course needed to complete the credits for the social studies requirements of Wyncote Academy. This course is to help prepare the senior students for the world in which they are about to enter and be model and active citizens of their community and country. This course will provide real life situations students may face in their upcoming journey. This course also brings together ideas students have studied in the past three years in the other social studies classes and show the importance of what they have studied and how it relates to them in their everyday lives.
