In LLT 545 Problem Based Learning we were assigned in a group, then provided with a scenario which we had to work together to create a lesson. One of the scenario was regarding bullying and creating a safe environment online in the digital world where alot of cyberbullying takes place.
Below is the Problem Scenario we were provided
Mrs. Dietrich is very excited about the work you have done for the grant. She loves your team’s approach to integrating technology across the curriculum. She has come to your team meeting to ask for your ideas regarding National Anti-Bullying Month held in October. Using the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Standards Aligned System (http://www.pdesas.org/default.aspx), identify relevant standards for multidisciplinary lesson(s) for the month of October, relating to anti-bullying. Develop standards-based lessons that can be used in math, science, language arts, computer, STEM and/or social studies classes using anti-bullying as the theme. Mrs. Dietrich is counting on your team’s leadership in integrating technology across the curriculum.
For my part of this lesson I decided to take an historic approach of bring in a example from history of bullying.
Lesson Description:
This lesson will briefly review some key historical figures who we were considered bullies and how people responded to those types of people. (Example to focus on Adolf Hitler during WWII) Study the effects of bullying and how to respond to a bully situation using historical context.
This lesson is created to be easily modified and adopted for use for grades 6th to 12th grade.
Activities Planned
Define a Bully as a class come up with some key points of what a bully is. Create a chart which will be on the wall of the classroom so students can reference back to the key points we discussed as class.
Students as a class will watch BrainPOP Video about Bullying https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DSuQHgB0vTg which will help understand the issue of bullying.
Then will work on a comparison sheet, using the definition we have of a bully.
Assessment:
Differentiated Instruction: Instead of a written summary students may choose to create a visual representation such as a video or PowerPoint Presentation.
